Profile
Over the past decade, I have built an outstanding foundation upon which to build my professional career going forward. I have had the opportunity to be a part of some great clubs, and even assisted with preparing for events such as the PGA Championship. For me, all of these rewarding experiences have come to pass due to my strong work ethic, knowledge base, and commitment to each club I have been associated with during my career.
I was taught the fundamentals of hard work and commitment as a youth growing up on our large family farm. With over 800 acres of corn and soybeans grown, along with other vegetables sold at farmers markets’, I quickly learned how to get the most out of the land provided. While turf on a golf course is not harvested, the same mind-set must be used in properly managing its maintenance--get the most out of the turf as possible for optimal playability.
Even though I enjoyed life on the farm, I had become passionate about golf and cherished
any day spent on the course. So, it was a natural fit with my background to enter the
world of golf course maintenance for a career path. After completing my college studies
at Iowa State University, I set out to gain as much experience at world-class facilities as
possible to hone my agronomic and management skill set.
My professional career experience includes Country Club of Virginia, Franklin Hills Country
Club, Oakland Hills Country Club, in addition to my current role as Superintendent at Twin
Lake Golf & Swim Club. While at Oakland Hills, I was part of a $2M renovation of the
South Course, a $2.5M renovation of the North Course, hosted a British Open Qualifier
and the 2008 PGA Championship.
All of these clubs have been excellent places to work for my life-long career in golf. I still enjoy each day awarded to me on the course and look forward to serving my club with dedication, while providing a fantastic golf experience. I am also committed to my wonderful wife and daughter and enjoy spending time with family while not on the course. In addition, I’m still an active golfer and try to get out on the course to play, when possible.
